This Sunday marked mine and Craig’s first wedding anniversary. It’s hard to believe it’s already been a year since the big day, but I’m sure this major move had a lot to do with the time absolutely flying by. We celebrated with a delicious meal high above the busy city streets at Ginza Sky Lounge. Perfection (although this carnivore could have used a U.S.-size steak.)
Making the choice to move so far away was not one we made lightly and we knew it would ultimately affect our marriage — but it was up to us whether it affected us in a positive or negative way. This experience has taught us how to be better supporters of each other as we navigate a new culture and jobs and how to truly make the most of our time together by exploring our new surroundings instead of sitting at home with our eyes on our phones. Honesty, communication — you realize even more how valuable they are when your spouse is suddenly the only person you know.
There have been good days and bad days but I couldn’t imagine going through this experience with anyone else. Craig makes me smile, makes me strong and makes me embrace each new adventure.
Here are some of our favorite moments from our wedding at the Flint Institute of Arts. A few more than six but hey, I had to. It was colorful and completely us and we wouldn’t change a thing. All photos by the amazingly wonderful Sean Cook. Our decorations were handled by Gerych’s and my family’s business, Oliver T’s Market, created our cake.
OK, mushy speech concluded. Year two starts now.
