In Japan, Valentine’s Day is all about the dudes. Ladies go head to head and line up shoulder to shoulder for the best chocolate treats to give to the men in their lives every February 14. What do we get in return? White Day. One month following Valentine’s Day, men are supposed to purchase gifts worth at least three times the value of those they received on Valentine’s Day. Sure makes lining up for candy worth it, am I right?
This year was a bit different for us, because Craig had to work. He also isn’t much of a chocolate guy. So, I visited him at the office for lunch, gave him another epic pop-up card and then we went on a nice little dinner date. Of course, we had to seize another opportunity to try some different foods. The restaurant we chose, Ginza de Wine, offered some very unique yakitori. We opted for boar’s cheek with brussels sprouts (new to us both) and venison with apple (new to this city girl).
As we enjoyed our dinner, I was reminded of one of things I love most about our relationship: We make each other laugh. I can honestly say Craig makes me laugh every single day and nothing makes me happier than seeing him smile. No matter how stressful life abroad has been, Craig knows just what to do to cheer me up and it’s that love and support that has made our years together thus far so much fun.
I hope you had a wonderful Valentine’s Day and ladies, make sure to mark your calendar for White Day!
